Motorola SB6120 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 eXtreme Broadband Cable Modem Review

Does it’s job. Had to replace one I bought in 2001 that Suddenlink said would not work with their service. Old one did work with it after calling tech support, they just wanted me to try to buy one of theirs. Ugh. But it’s pretty stable, haven’t had any issues with it. I would recommend it. Tried getting fiber installed, but I’m in too old a neigborhood to get it. This is the next best thing…

Upgrade Your Home Cable Modem – Energyguy –
Dump that rental box and move up to Docsis 3.0 speed. Zoom, zoom, zoom. I was very impressed with the ease of installation. Just call your cable provider and give them the MAC address and in minutes your flying.
Just did not work – Shyam –
I bought this modem after the “Item under review” status by amazon was removed, assuming I’d get a reliable working product. But I was wrong, when I tried hooking it up with Comcast High speed cable it just did not work. The comcast technician told me, he always got it to work as soon as he hooked it up, but somehow mine did not. I ended up renting comcast’s SB5101.
Motorola technical support person after listening asked me to return the product, no fixes nothing.
I’d assume when a product is released to general public the company at least should perform basic testing and release only the ones that are functioning.
This might have been overkill – J. Phillips –
I bought this because we were having so much trouble staying on line. I would call our cable company and they were always telling me it was my modem. I would do everything they said to do and then they would do something and we would have service again. Maybe for a couple of days and maybe only for an hour. I bought this in hopes of being able to stay on line more reliably. Well, it didn’t work. But at least I know they are lying when they say it is my modem. Our city divided itself in two and gave one half to Cox and one half to Comcast. I cannot switch and they are the only game in town for my area.
The directions that came with this are incorrect in places. They say you will have green lights, you do not — they are yellow. At first I thought this meant there was something wrong, but there wasn’t. For this much money, you would think they could get their manual right. I have to presume it is working as it appears to be. I gave it four stars because of little things like the manual. Otherwise it seems OK. I think I could have gotten by with a less expensive modem however.
